 Across the Cape Floristic Region, lowland biodiversity is under threat and often very poorly conserved, since most of the protected areas are in mountainous regions.
Four of the C.A.P.E. task teams working on biodiversity conservation primarily in these lowland areas meet together on a regular basis in a "Critical Lowlands Cluster".
