An environmental and resource economics conference, “Environment & Economy: Mind the Gap”, will be held on 21 and 22 May 2009 in Cape Town – a C.A.P.E. event hosted by SANBI, with partnership and sponsorship from the Botanical Society of South Africa, DWAF, Working for Water, WWF, Table Mountain Fund, ASSET Research, Statistics South Africa, the Environmental Policy Research Unit (EPRU),the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and FETWater.
The conference will cover environmental resource economics as it applies to natural resource management. This includes the economics of biodiversity conservation, water resource management (especially natural aquatic environments), agricultural resource management (especially natural landscapes), climate change and marine resource management.
Papers and posters are expected to include contributions on:
- Economic or market-based instruments
- Payment for Ecosystem Services
- Environmental Resource Economic inputs to planning processes (e.g. conservation planning and spatial planning)
- Ecological-economic modelling
- Valuation of environmental goods and services
- Livelihoods issues as they relate to natural resource management
- Political economy and policy considerations in natural resource management
- Natural Resource Accounting.
