2010 Fynbos Conservation Awards: call for nominations -Closing date - 16 April 2010


The C.A.P.E Coordination Unit is hereby calling for nominations for 2010 Fynbos Conservation Awards, to be presented to deserving individuals, who have made exceptional contributions to biodiversity conservation in the Cape Floristic Region, at a function in the first week of May.

The purpose of the Awards is twofold: firstly, to recognise individuals’ outstanding contribution or achievement amongst their peers in the broad biodiversity conservation community and secondly, to showcase successful or innovative work by the conservation sector to the public through media coverage.

The awards highlight individual achievements in working towards the goal of the C.A.P.E. partnership programme that “By the year 2020, the cooperation of capable institutions ensures that the biodiversity of the CFR is conserved, sustainably utilised and effectively managed, delivering significant benefits to the people of the region in a way that is embraced by local communities, endorsed by government and recognised internationally.”

Awards may be given for work that contributes towards one or more of the following six Strategic Objectives of the C.A.P.E. partnership: effective protection of biodiversity; wise regulation, use and development of natural resources; integrated management of natural resources; sharing knowledge; building and sustaining an enabling environment (including institutional and professional capacity, policy and legal framework, strategic and operational alignment, and stakeholder support) for effective biodiversity conservation; and sustainable use of biodiversity resources to deliver socio-economic benefits for local communities.

Nominations, including a detailed nomination form and a CV of the nominee, can be made by any individual who is registered on the database of C.A.P.E. stakeholders. Before submitting their application, nominators should confirm their registration. Individuals may nominate up to three nominees per year. The closing date for the submission of nominations is the 16th of April 2010.
