The mission of RENU-KARO VELD RESTRATION cc is to make ecological restoration with locally indigenous plants a sought-after service in the Central Karoo, thereby sustaining ecological services and generating sustainable livelihoods.
RENU-KAROO VELD RESTORATION cc is a biodiversity-based business located in the village of Prince Albert in the economically depressed, but biodiverse, semi-desert Central Karoo region of South Africa. The business aims produce and market seeds and plants of Karoo rangeland species for restoration, to develop appropriate ecological restoration techniques, and to build skills among its employees so as to provide a professional ecological restoration service to farmers and mining companies. We provide experiential training opportunities for technical college students and nature walks and workshops for local schools and clubs, because we consider that awareness of environmental and conservation issues will promote the long-term sustainability of biodiversity-based businesses. As part of our contribution to improved environmental management, we make compost from muni####l waste.
We received sponsorship from
Rufford Small Grants for Nature Conservation (2008 and 2009)
Plant Conservation Unit, University of Cape Town (2007-2009)
