dear all

I would like to hear your comment and feeling around conservation training to people living and working in sensitive / conserved / stewardship, etc. sites. I have just presented a course to farm workers from stewardship sites, and think there is a huge demand and a logical sense in doing this training. Not much accredited training material is available and/or applicable for the "intro level" farm worker, and accredited courses are also expensive. But is this necessary? Applicable and valuable training can also be presented without having to be accredited, and for a lot cheaper.

Do you think this type of training is needed? How would you identify the most critical areas / groups to start with, and how would you go about to take this idea further? Any discussion around this topic will be appreciated.

There are a plenty of entry level conservation as i am currently implementing some of them in the eastern cape in the form of learnership or skills programme and also we have some of the skills programmes which they are on the low level and the accredited qualifications are essentail as they assist the course parti####nt to articulate to another level e.g from level 2 to 3, 4 or 5 qualification in terms of career advancement and due to acredited training the learners or students they move with credit for any accredited training completed and it is more of you make sure that you material or institution offering those training are accredited with relevant seta in this case has to be THETA which it is responsible for accrediting the conservation training institutions and give me a call i will be gladly assist in this regard and also there are conservation resource guardianships NQF 2, which entry level and skills programme include General Field Assistant, Field Ranger NQF 2 and make sure that you only train the people on the accredited Qualification so that they can have credit until the ycan laos achieve NQF 5 qualifications -----Lucky 041 585 8290 give a call

One day courses aimed at people starting with grass identification or people who want to refresh their grasses knowledge and three day courses for those who want to expand their current grass species knowledge are being presented in January and February next year.

The course presenter, Frits van Oudtshoorn, author of the book Guide to Grasses of Southern Africa, has urged early registration for these courses to avoid disappointment.

The one day courses consist of presentations on the importance of grasses, how to identify grasses and practical grass identification (at one locality). The features and value of each grass is discussed.

The advanced grass identification courses stretching over three days are aimed at people who want to expand their current grass species knowledge and it consist of presentations on the importance of grasses and grass identification during the morning of the first day. The remainder of the course is spent on practical grass identification at various locations (sweetveld and sourveld). The general aim of the course is to identify, collect and repeat as many grass species as possible during the given time.
