SANParks honours staff at cape regional awards

The South African National Parks (SANParks) Cape Region held its regional awards ceremony at the Kirstenbosch Silvertree Restaurant on 24 April 2012.

The Regional Awards are held every two years, and winners of these awards are automatically nominated for the National SANParks Kudu Awards, which are held annually at the SANParks Head Office in Pretoria. Regional Awards are held throughout all 21 National Parks, according to their regions. The aim is to recognize excellent work and performance by SANParks staff who work tirelessly in conserving the natural heritage of these beautiful parks, and in educating tourists and locals like about biodiversity.

The Cape Region consists of five national parks, Agulhas, Bontebok, Table Mountain, Tankwa and West Coast, and this year, the Cape Regional Awards were themed the “Cape Cobra Awards” – owing to the fact that the Cape Cobra is the common thread that runs through each of these parks. The Cobra also represents qualities of the staff and parks in the region – strength, versatility and courage, to name but a few.

Awards included long service awards, and awards for bravery, excellent overall performance, best constituency builder, business partner of the year, park of the year, ranger of the year, best performing camp among others. Both Gary de Kock, Regional General Manager for the Cape Region, and Paul Daphne, Managing Executive Director: Parks , thanked all the staff for their continuous hard work and perseverance to deliver excellent service to guests, and their tireless efforts to protect the natural areas and inhabitants of the national parks at which they are based.
